Well – we just finished the first recording session with the JM Band. Many thanks to Ramey Herren with ViaMedia Productions for a great job and being so accommodating!
Narrowing down a library of over 500 tunes was a daunting task at first. However, after following our JM Band philosophy–“we play the songs people know and love”– we found that choosing tunes became less of a chore and more of a pleasure. So tunes from Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Donna Summer are mixed in with Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Doc Severinsen, and more standards from the Great American Songbook. When finished, this will be a great representation of the abundant talent and musicianship of the band. Hopefully it will show through as to how much fun we have playing this music!
This talented band is also incredibly versatile, being able to scale from 18 piece big band to a 5 piece combo to a Polka band to Dixieland group. Regardless of the size and need, we have the players. With the crisp fall weather upon us, the band responded in amazing form at the Rogers Oktoberfest on October 19. The band played so well in the 49 degree temperatures that I threatened to make that a requirement for all gigs!
Now we’re shifting gears to get ready for two very important annual programs: our Pearl Harbor Salute on Dec. 5th and our Christmas Program on December 7th. Both are open to the public so I hope to see you there. Check out our calendar of events for details.
